"Turning science into business is about recognising opportunity. You need to understand who the customer is and what they might want."

It is one thing to have a great scientific or technical innovation. It is quite another to know how those findings can be deployed, how you can gain in-depth understanding of the market and how you need to finance and scale your business. That is why the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) added the Science-to-Business program (S2B) to its education portfolio. S2B offers researchers, scientists, academics and PhD candidates a practice-oriented blended learning platform that takes them on a journey to discover commercial applications, services and products.
This program was developed by EIT Digital partner IMEC / iMinds and updated by UGhent and Noventus for the EIT Knowledge Innovation Communities (KIC) that bring together experts from many disciplines, including social sciences, humanities and economics.
Now, we gear up our efforts and reach out to scientists at universities, incubators and accelerators.
Let's accelerate the translation of research into sustainable businesses and create societal value.
This program is available in a fully online, highly collaborative format,
or in a blended format, mixing online preparatory modules with a 3 day residential module.
80% of PhD researchers pursue a career in industry, start their own company or embark on a career in the public sector. Still, translating research results into innovative applications and services that create value for society remains a vast challenge for the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The successful path from science to innovative products or services requires systemic thinking that takes into account all the aspects of a particular innovation domain, thorough understanding of the customer or user point of view as well as the business context.
Are you a researcher or scientist and ready to turn your research into business?
Then the "Science-to-Business" workshops are designed for you. We help you get on track to bring your innovative solutions to the market to create value for customers ... and possibly a life-changing experience as entrepreneur for yourself.

Applicants will be selected based on the topic and progress of their research, their motivation and ambitions.
Groups consists of max. 18 researches, to ensure the tailored approach and coaching.

Why organise a S2B workshop?
The European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) is an independent body of the European Union set up in 2008 to boost innovation and entrepreneurship across Europe. The EIT brings together leading higher education institutions, research labs and companies to form dynamic cross-border partnerships – Knowledge Innovation Communities - that develop innovative products and services, start new companies, and train a new generation of entrepreneurs.
